Gaslighting

What it is

Making you doubt your perception, memory, or judgment. One of the most damaging forms of invisible harm because it dismantles the exact tool you'd need to leave: your trust in yourself.

Does this sound familiar?

"That isn't how it happened, you're remembering it wrong."
"Nobody else thinks that — the problem is you."
"You're crazy, you need help."

How it gets justified

I'm just helping you see things clearly.

Your perception was working fine. The reason it has to be undermined is simple: if you trust what you see, you'd act. Acting is the threat the gaslighting is built to prevent.

You've been really sensitive lately — maybe you need help.

Your sensitivity is your detection system doing its job. You picked up something real. Calling it sensitivity mutes the alarm without putting out the fire.

Often escalates toward

When a behavior stays unnamed, the nervous system stops registering it as alarm — and the door opens to what comes next.
